The Togolese Minister of Industry and Tourism, Ihou Attigbe, visited the Cairo headquarters of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) today to discuss initiatives by the Bank to support the development of Togo’s industrial capacity.
Mr. Attigbe, who was received by Dr. George Elombi, Executive Vice-President (Governance, Legal and Corporate Services), said that the government planned to build several industrial parks over the next 10 years with the objective of creating 100,000 jobs in various sectors in the country in line with the National Social and Economic Development Plan.
He said that Togo was committed to supporting collaborative initiatives with Afreximbank in areas where the Bank’s financial and advisory services could add value to the development and industrial agenda.
Responding, Dr. Elombi said that Togo’s development goals were aligned with Afreximbank’s strategy, which had a strong focus on intra-African trade and industrialisation, and reiterated the Bank’s commitment to supporting efforts to increase Togo’s export manufacturing capacity and develop local value chains to support key economic sectors.
Togo became a Member State of Afreximbank in May 2016 after signing the Bank’s Establishment Agreement.
