Dr. Benedict Oramah, President of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), met today in Washington D.C. with Kemi Adeosun, the Nigerian Minister of Finance, to discuss the strengthening of collaboration between Nigeria and the continental trade finance bank in order to support economic growth in Nigeria.
During the meeting, held on the sidelines of the Annual Meetings of the World Bank and the IMF, Dr. Oramah updated the Minister on various activities being supported by Afreximbank in Nigeria, including the establishment of several industrial parks across the country.
According to the President, three sites had been identified for the establishment of the industrial parks following the completion of scoping studies and the industrial parks are expected to be completed by the end of 2018.
The Bank had also made good progress on the establishment of a medical centre of excellence in the country, he said, adding that an agreement had been signed with the Ministry of Health and the feasibility study had commenced. The Government was expected to provide the land for the centre once that study was completed.
The Bank was also building a quality certification centre in Ogun State, he went on, adding that it was partnering in the project with a leading global entity involved in that field. The Ogun State Government had provided land for the centre in Shagamu and the relevant study would be completed by the end of November.
Dr. Oramah informed the Minister that Afreximbank would mark its 25th anniversary in 2018 and called for Nigeria’s support and participation in the event, noting that the Bank was conceived in Nigeria.
Also today, President Oramah held discussions with the Ghanaian delegation to the World Bank-IMF Annual Meetings led by Charles Adu Boahen, Deputy Minister of Finance, and Yaw Osafo-Maafo, Senior Minister in the office of the President.
