Job Summary
Afreximbank is seeking an exceptional Deputy Chief Economist to support its mission of expanding and diversifying African trade. This senior-level position will contribute to strategic research, policy advice, economic analysis, and publications. The ideal candidate will bring strong intellectual leadership, policy advocacy, and research rigor to shape trade development across Africa.
Key Responsibilities

Lead applied economic research in trade development, financial economics, and sectoral analysis.

Prepare internal economic reports, risk assessments, and policy analysis.

Provide strategic policy advice to senior leadership.

Collaborate with global institutions, academia, and African trade policy actors.

Organize high-level conferences, symposia, and workshops.

Manage publication of the Bank’s research outputs including the Journal of African Trade.

Support risk management modeling and database architecture.

Contribute to enterprise-level initiatives (e.g., Centre for AfCFTA Studies, research sabbatical programme).
Requirements

PhD in Economics or related field from a recognized university.

Minimum 12 years’ experience as a Trade Economist or in economic research, ideally within the financial sector.

Demonstrated experience in econometric modeling, quantitative and qualitative analysis, and international trade policy.

Proven track record of peer-reviewed publications.

Deep understanding of African trade development, geo-economics, and international finance.

Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., STATA, EViews, SPSS, SAS).

Fluency in English is essential; French, Arabic, or Portuguese is an advantage.
