The Government of Cameroon has awarded national honours to two leaders of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank).

The Government presented the award of “Chevalier de l’Ordre de la Valeur” (Knight of the Order of Valour) to Afreximbank President Prof. Benedict Oramah and Dr. George Elombi, Executive Vice President (Corporate Governance and Legal Services), for their contributions to the country.

Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute, Prime Minister of Cameroon, announced the awards during a state dinner hosted by the Government on 13 December to mark the signing of the two principal documents finalising the protocol toward the take-off of Afreximbank’s Central Africa Branch Office in Yaounde. The Branch Office Agreement and the Memorandum of Understanding Concerning the Temporary and Permanent Premises of the Central Africa Branch Office in Yaounde were signed earlier in the day by Prof. Oramah and Mbella Mbella, Minister of External Affairs of Cameroon.

Mbella Mbella, Minister of External Affairs of Cameroon, decorated the President and Executive Vice President with the awards by pinning the decorations on them.

In an address preceding the decorations, the Prime Minister said that the awards were being made on the recommendation of the Ambassador of Cameroon to Egypt.

He commended Afreximbank for deciding to site its Central Africa Branch Office in Yaounde and pledged the support of the Government to the office.

Prof. Oramah expressed his appreciation on being selected to receive the award and attributed the success achieved by Afreximbank to the hard work of the members of staff.

The awards follow the conferment of “The Order of Friendship” on Prof. Oramah by President Vladimir Putin of Russia on 4 November.

The signing of the Afreximbank Branch Agreement was one of three activities held by Afreximbank in Cameroon during the week. In addition to the fourth quarterly meeting of its Board of Directors, which also took place on 13 September, the Bank hosted a roadshow in Douala on 10 December and another in Yaounde on 11 December to showcase its products, pogrammes and facilities to the Cameroon business community.
