Cairo, Egypt, 23 February 2024 – The Africa-Trade Knowledge hub, The Afreximbank Academy (AFRACAD), owned and administered by the Africa Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) Group, announces the opening of registration for the 2024 cohort of the Certificate of Trade Finance in Africa (COTFIA). AFRACAD offers this programme in partnership with Factors Chain International (FCI) and the American University in Cairo (AUC). Applications are encouraged from all financial professionals and interested practitioners in the field of trade finance across the African continent and its diaspora.

COTFIA, one of the well-known flagship programmes featured in the 2024 AFRACAD catalogue, is designed to support the implementation of one of Afreximbank’s strategic priorities – improving trade-related skills and addressing trade capacity gaps to facilitate a more conducive trading environment, enabling Africa to compete globally.

AFRACAD continuously reviews the programme to enhance the learning experience, align with contemporary best practices, and amplify the participants’ understanding of the important aspects of international trade finance. In addition, the COTFIA programme addresses various aspects related to the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement which is expected to have a significant impact on improving the growth levels of intra-African trade activities on the continent.

To maintain the enriched learning experience, COTFIA programme will continue to be delivered in a blended format. The 2024 cohort will attend the first and the sixth modules of the programme in-person at the AUC campus in New Cairo, Egypt. The rest of the modules will be instructor-led virtual sessions, except for the seventh module, which is asynchronous.

Stephen Tio Kauma, Afreximbank Group’s Director & Global Head of Human Resources

“We are delighted to open registration, once again, for the Certificate of Trade Finance in Africa Programme which we have been delivering for 8 years now. Following the official launch of the Afreximbank Academy back in 2022, we have embarked on further developing Africans of diaspora talent through learning, knowledge sharing, and networking events focused on Africa’s needs. The COTFIA programme, facilitated by leading practitioners, academics, and professional experts in the field, enables participants to gain unique insights while deepening their understanding and expertise in international trade finance. We cordially recommend that organizations enroll their personnel in this program, as it will significantly increase their understanding of international track in general.”
