Job Summary
The Assistant Manager, Research (Data Modelling & Data Science) will provide advanced analytical and technical support to Afreximbank’s Research and Trade Intelligence function. The role focuses on data management, econometric modelling, predictive analytics, and data-driven insights to support the Bank’s research outputs, trade finance strategy, and decision-making. The incumbent will design, develop, deploy, and maintain sophisticated data models while ensuring alignment with industry best practices in data governance, analytics, and security.
Key Responsibilities
Data Management & Analytics

Collect, clean, preprocess, and analyse large volumes of structured and unstructured data related to trade finance, market trends, and customer behaviour.

Develop predictive and econometric models to forecast market trends, assess risks, and identify business opportunities.

Design and maintain data models, data flows, and data storage systems aligned with business objectives.

Ensure strict adherence to data governance, data quality, and data security standards.
Advanced Modelling & Innovation

Apply advanced analytics, machine learning, and AI techniques to enhance model accuracy and forecasting capability.

Evaluate, refine, and recalibrate existing models using performance feedback and evolving data.

Contribute to developing innovative analytics frameworks tailored to African economic and trade contexts.
Research & Publications

Contribute to the production of the Bank’s key analytical publications, including the African Trade and Economic Outlook (AETO), African Trade Report (ATR), and Debt Sustainability Analysis (DSA).

Work closely with economists, researchers, financial analysts, and IT teams to deliver high-quality analytical outputs.
Data Visualisation & Reporting

Communicate insights effectively through dashboards, visualisations, and analytical reports to support senior management decision-making.
Capacity Building

Provide training and guidance to internal stakeholders on the interpretation and use of analytical models across the Bank.
Compliance

Adhere to Afreximbank’s AML, regulatory, and conduct compliance policies.

Report any suspicious or non-compliant activities and complete all mandatory compliance training.
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum Qualifications
-
Master’s degree in Economics, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Econometrics, Statistics, Engineering, or another quantitative discipline.

Strong coding skills with experience in statistical and programming languages such as R, Python, SQL, or similar.

Proven experience designing data architectures and working with large datasets.

Solid knowledge of machine learning techniques (e.g. clustering, decision trees, neural networks) and advanced statistical methods.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly.

Experience

Minimum of 5 years’ relevant banking or financial sector experience in data management, analytics, and model development.
