Afreximbank President Discusses with Nigeria’s Transport Minister

The Nigerian Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amechi, has held consultations with Prof. Benedict Oramah, President of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), to discuss opportunities for collaboration by the Bank in the development of the transport sector in Nigeria where the government is in discussion with some Russian companies.

The consultations, which took place in Sochi, Russian Federation, on the sidelines of the Russia-Africa Summit hosted by the Government of Russia, focused on the railway sector.

Mr. Amechi noted that railways were critical for the movement of goods.

Prof. Oramah stated that Afreximbank had an existing relationship with the major Russian companies in the railway sector and could provide them with the support necessary to execute projects in Nigeria.

Afreximbank co-organised the Russia-Africa Economic Forum which was held in conjunction with the Russia Africa Summit. The Bank was also a key partner in the organisation of the Russia-Africa Summit.

Joining the discussion from Afreximbank were Kanayo Awani, Managing Director, Intra-African Trade Initiative; Obi Emekekwue, Director, Communications and Events Management; Ekene Uzor, Special Assistant to the President on Banking and Special Initiatives; and Uju Okafor of the Abuja Branch Office.
